Tallit Making Project Launch
Have you ever thought about getting or making a tallit? This year you can make your own along with the bmitzvah class at TVO! There will be sessions throughout the year to make the various parts of the tallit including: spinning wool into yarn, tying tzitzit, and putting all the parts of the tallit together with a shawl or piece of fabric of your choosing. It can be as simple or elaborate as you want. You can come to some or all, you can just come for fun, or come to make your own tallit. Part of the project will be Sheep to Tzitzit (fringes on the four corners). We will visit a sheep farm and learn the process of turning a sheep fleece into yarn to tie the knots for the tzitzit. Along the way we'll be learning all about tallitot and Jewish values connected to them.
Each person will buy their own materials for the tallit and we encourage a donation of $50 if you are a participant to help cover costs of guest teachers and materials. Please get in touch with Michael at michael.j.margolin@tikkunvor.org and let him know what parts of the program you are interested in.
Looking forward to the tallit making journey together!
The project is launching on Wednesday October 9 from 4:30-6:00 pm with a visit to the sheep at Here We Are Farm , 4341 Perry City Rd, Trumansburg. The TVO community is invited to join the bmitzvah class on the farm. This is a Members-Only event. (Bmitzvah students do not need to register here.)
Register here if you plan to attend the visit to Here We Are Farm.
