  JEWISH LEARNING EXPERIENCES (JLE) at TVO

  REGISTRATION 2024-2025

  If you are new to JLE, please contact info@tikkunvor.org before registering.

  Click on Register below to complete the registration process. A separate registration is required for each student.

  We welcome all Jewish students, regardless of the children's and parent(s)’ religious backgrounds, ethnic identities, race, family configuration, gender identity and expression, or sexual orientation.
  

  Family Jewish Learning Experiences is for children in kindergarten (gan) and first grade (kitah alef). This program meets monthly on Saturday mornings, for children and their caregivers.
  

  Jewish Learning Experiences for students in second/third grade (kitah bet/gimel) meets on Sundays from 9-11 am.
  

  Jewish Learning Experiences for children in fourth/fifth (kitah dalet/hey) and sixth and seventh grade (kitah vav/zayin) meets on Sundays from 9 am - noon. Vav/Zayin also meets on Wednesdays from 4:30-6 pm.

  TUITION: In the first year, JLE families with students in K-5 have the option of paying a slightly higher school rate, which includes temple membership. Any other temple membership dues are waived for that first year.  All 6th and 7th grade  / b’nai mitzvah student families must be dues-paying members in good standing. All fees from previous year must be paid in full to register for a new year.

  A discussion with Rabbi Micah Geurin-Weiss

  In person and on Zoom

  The first event in TvO’s initiative on Purpose, Identity and Affiliation will take place Thursday, evening, March 20, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. We are excited to host Rabbi Micah Geurin-Weiss to lead a discussion on the topic: "Essential Questions and Key Strategies For Thriving as a Jewish Congregation Today." We really hope that many of you will come and be part of what we expect to be a thought-provoking conversation!

  Rabbi Weiss is the Associate Director For Thriving Communities and Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Reconstructionist Movement, with a focus on supporting the sacred work of tikkun olam.

  We have asked Rabbi Weiss to share insights and examples from his work with a range of congregations to help us consider some key questions and strategies that might help TvO thrive and have a meaningful impact in this fraught political/cultural moment and in the years ahead.

• Sheep to Tallit and Tzitzit tying event

  Our tallit making journey is continuing in March! 

  Please consider joining Michael Margolin and the bmitzvah class to learn about the Sheep to Tallit Project and tzitzit tying workshop on Wednesday March 26 from 4:30-6 at TVO. The students and Michael will tell you all about the sheep to tallit experience and teach you how to tie tzitzit.

  Please register here so we know how to prepare. 

  Whether you want to tie local, hand spun yarn on a tallit or you just want to come learn and hear about the tallit project from the students, please join us.

  "Responding to Hatred" is a comprehensive presentation designed to address the issue of antisemitism and provide practical strategies for effectively confronting it in our daily lives. This will include identifying historical manifestations of antisemitism (both religious and racial), exploring antisemitism related to Israel (how do we differentiate between that and legitimate criticism of Israel?), and offering effective tools for responding to antisemitism. We'll gain knowledge, share opinions in non-judgmental ways, and learn how we might help each other handle challenging situations.

  Please join in the Tikkun v'Or Community Seder, led by Rabbi Lenore Bohm with Miranda Phillips.

  Sunday, April 13, 6-8 pm at 2550 N Triphammer Rd in Lansing.

  The cost for the dinner is $40 for adults, $20 for children.

  Reservations will be taken until April 6.

  As always we will have fervent prayers, robust singing, and delicious food.

  Brussel Sprouts with maple glaze and thyme

  We also ask you to bring a vegetarian dish or dessert to complement the catered menu.
  

  
  

  Each reservation will need to indicate if you want the chicken or vegetarian entree for each member of your party.

  If the cost of the seder is prohibitive for you, please pay what you can. If you can donate toward others attending the seder, it is much appreciated.

  VOLUNTEERS NEEDED As usual, this event wouldn’t take place without the work of many dedicated volunteers. We are looking for volunteers to do the following:

  • Help set up the building for the seder and clean up afterwards
  • Bring seder plates to the seder, either empty or full (parsley, horseradish, hardboiled egg, charoset, roasted beets)
  • Make and bring charoset to share
  • Bring food from the kitchen to tables

  LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER

  A special evening of STORYTELLING ON Mother's Day Weekend!

  Live performances on the many aspects of motherhood!  The event will include a dozen local storytellers who will tell funny, poignant or emotionally intense stories with the theme of motherhood.

  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Open Doors English (ODE), a school in Ithaca supporting all adult English language learners in the Tompkins County area, no matter their ability to pay. ODE is a project of the Center for Transformative Action, affiliated with Cornell.

  The Center for Transformative Action (CTA) supports change makers in creating communities that are ecologically sound, socially just and work for everyone. Their bold actions inspire and animate the heart toward common good.
